Sweaty hands can be just a part of the problem. Why not prevent excessive sweating with Mike Ramsey’s eBook ‘Stop Sweating and Start Living’.

Palmar Hyperhidrosis

The human body has over five million sweat glands, which secrete sweat and keep the body cool and moist. Sweating and perspiration are normal functions of the body. People sweat on their palms, feet, face and armpits. This is normal, especially if it is summer and hot, or if the person has been running, climbing, doing exercises, or is nervous and tense.

But some people sweat excessively and this condition where the sweat and the perspiration is unusually more, is called hyperhidrosis. Generally adolescence is the age which is the onset of sweating. The lanky boy or the shy girl may be unduly worried about sweating and feel very conscious of the condition. There are different types of of this problem- palmer hyperhidrosis which affects the palms of the hands, axillary where the underarms produce a lot of sweat, plantar where the feet perspire a lot and facial. Any condition of hyperhidrosis is embarrassing and dramatic. A stained shirt or dress, a slippery sweaty hand or a face that drips due to perspiration can look and feel bad.

Generally, appearing for an exam or interview, meeting someone for the first time or going to school, college or office for the first time causes this condition. Most people just ignore and take no action it thinking it to be situational which will go away at the right time. Others may seek medical help and intervention.

Palmer hyperhidrosis is the sweating of hands. Shaking hands with one afflicted by this can be an awful situation. He palms will be wet and slippery. Sometimes even rubbing some lotion on the palms may trigger palmer hyperhidrosis. In severe cases sweat can be seen to drip from the palms. Such a condition may begin in childhood and is rare. But if a person suffers from it he should see a doctor. Those with this condition are constantly aware of it and feel very self conscious and awkward. Many people feel that their hands are moist and clammy and hate the condition though they may be forced to accept it as part of life.

Meditation, yoga, weight loss may be used to control this situation. Medical treatment in the form of oral medicines may be given. Sometimes talcum powder used on the palms may reduce the effect but the powder may cause a pasty thick slimy substance and the person may not even be able to hold hands with the one he loves. Surgical methods like cutting or clamping the sweat glands may be done in extreme and severe cases.
