Smelly feet can cannot only be an embarrassment but can seriously damage the self esteem. There are many people, especially guys, who have to deal with this problem every day, and also are the victims of numerous medicines that didn’t help. To help them I wrote this article hopping to at least make them understand what is causing this problem and how to prevent it. So here it is.

Smelly feet, also known as "bromohydrosis", are the result of the interaction between perspiration and the bacteria that lurk in you shoes and socks. The foot and hands contain the most sweat glands than any other part of the body ( about 3000 glands per square inch). Inside the shoe the temperature reaches sometimes 102 F. So this temperature combined with the moisture generated by the sweat glands constitute the perfect environment and a fertile breeding ground for the bacteria responsible for your smelly feet.

Scientists estimate that an average foot produces a quarter cup of sweat per day. When the temperature rises or the person is active, as much as a cup of liquid can be created. All this sweat and the protein that accompanies it from dead skin cells can feed six trillion bacteria. Just as such bugs are responsible for the distinctive aroma of Limburger cheese, so too the flora and fauna that live on the feet can create some pretty strong smells. Control the sweat or kill the bacteria and you can banish the odor.

The bacteria that are often found in foot odor are usually corynebacterium and micrococcus species. They produce the isovaleric acid which is main substance responsible for the smelly feet. So, successful treatment of smelly feet depends on eliminating the organisms.

Smelly feet can also be caused by an inherited condition called hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, which primarily affects males. Stress, fluid intake and hormonal changes also can increase the amount of perspiration your body produces.

Preventing smelly feet.

Smelly feet generally can be controlled with a few preventive measures. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society recommends that you:

- maintain a good feet hygiene this way you keep the bacteria population to a minimum level.

- Change your socks and shoes at least once per day.

- Bathe your feet daily in warm water the dry them well.

- Dust your feet frequently with a non medicated baby powder or foot powder.

- Look for fungal infections between you toes and on the bottom of your feet and if you spot redness and dry skin get treatment.

- Wear thick, soft socks made from cotton to absorb the moisture away from the feet and under don’t wear under any circumstances nylon socks.

- Let your feet breath by wearing leather shoes and don’t wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row.( let your shoes to wear out at least 24 hours)

You must remember that these measures are mostly preventive and not curative and if you still have smelly feet after using these prevention methods , it is time for you to visit a doctor and get proper examination and a professional opinion.

Address Excessive Feet Sweating To Stop Stinky Feet

February 3rd, 2009

Try ‘Stop Sweating and Start Living’ by Mike Ramsey to prevent excessive sweat on your feet and the resultantnat stinky feet.

7 Steps To Prevent Bromohydrosis And The Best Home Remedy For Stinky Feet

Millions of Americans suffer from a condition that is commonly known as ’stinky feet’. The medical community refers to this condition as either hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating) or bromohydrosis (excessive smelliness). A smelly foot smells like something akin to really bad cheese mixed with b.o. and there is nothing that will clear the room faster than a nasty case of stink foot. Since many people (i.e. women) will not tolerate it, it has been known to be a relationship deal breaker.

You may wondering what causes this phenomenon, and perhaps may be pondering what steps you might want to take so that you may rejoin your friends in family in the living room…

The bacterium known as cornyebacterium and microccus really like warm, moist environments where they can thrive and multiply. A sweaty sneaker (midwestern slang for athletic shoe) tends to be the ideal place for these guys to hang out. The stink happens when these bacteria interact with the sweat of your sweaty foot. In order to fight the plague of smelly feet, you need an attack addressing both the foot and the shoe front.

*Wash your feet both often and thoroughly to minimize the bacteria.

*Socks are cheap. Buy a lot of them and change them often, especially when working out.

*Apply a solution of 5 or 10 percent benzoyl peroxide to your feet to wipe out the bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide is an effective antibacterial agent that is found in many over the counter acne treatments.

*Powder those puppies everyday with either non-medicated baby or foot powder.

*Alternate your foot receptacles. Letting your shoes ‘air out’ after use will help reduce the bacteria. You will also be able to keep your shoes for a longer period of time if you occasionally switch them out.

*It’s all about the material. Nylon socks will make your feet sweat more, as will plastic shoes. These materials do not let your dogs’ breath. Leather, canvas and mesh are much better options.

*Wear thick cotton socks. It is like wrapping your foot in a towel. Good quality socks that can absorb your excessive sweat are key to maintaining the dreaded stinky feet syndrome.

Here is THE BEST home remedy for sweaty and stinky feet: wash you feet and dry them well. Take a pair of cotton socks and put in each sock about 1-2 table spoons of boric acid. Put the socks on and do not take them off for 3 days. Then wash your feet and wash your socks. For the first time this treatment will work for about 6 months. That is right, you will not have sweaty and smelly feet for 6 months at all. Then repeat the treatment again. This time it should last for about 2 years. Then you need to do the treatment once in 3-5 years. Isn’t it awesome? I tested it myself and it works GREAT!

Stop Excess Foot Sweating

Are expensive Botox injections and surjery the only way to prevent excessive sweat on my feet?

The Fastest Cure For Excessive Foot Sweating

What’s your most embarrassing moment? For me it was hanging out at a dinner party with friends. The couple who had invited everyone over just got new carpeting and were insistent that everyone remove their shoes upon entering the house. Well, at least I wore nice socks! About a quarter of the way through the meal, my foot odor was undeniably consuming the air around the table. People were polite at first, but then snickers turned into all out finger pointing. My husband was perhaps as embarrassed as I was. It was pretty humiliating. Excessive foot sweating at its worst.

That was the night I decided to find the solution to my excessive foot sweating. I just couldn’t deal with the problem any longer. I’ve been well aware of my excessive foot sweating for some time now. I even saw doctors about it. Turned out I had been diagnosed with primary hyperhidrosis. That means I have hyperactive sweat glands that perspire uncontrollably no matter what the weather or temperature is like. Well, that explained my sopping wet shoes but that didn’t answer my main concern. How can I make it stop?

My doctor told me about surgical options for excessive foot sweating. A procedure called a sympathectomy would cut the nerves that led to the sweat glands in question. The problem with this solution? A lot of patients who go this route end up with what’s called compensatory sweating. I could walk out of the hospital and in just a few weeks have a problem with sweaty palms. Not for me. Plus, surgery sounds so drastic. I needed another excessive foot sweaty cure.

My second option was going with botox injections. This wasn’t a great option either. They’re very expensive, costing up to $300 or more per injection and you have to go back every 6 months to keep up with it. My problem was bad, but I didn’t want to shell out that kind of money for a temporary fix. I wanted a solution that would nip excessive foot sweating in the bud once and for all.
