These are some 'self-help' techniques for you to commence your journey of developing self-confidence.
1. Everybody is good at something so, every day, determine a different thing you're good at and morning and evening, invest some time focusing on it and saying aloud, "I'm very good at ...". It doesn't have to be major - possibly something similar to baking a cake, supporting your mates, DIY, finding bargains, collecting stamps. At the end of each day include it in a list, watch as the list increases and be proud of these things.
2. Do not fret failure! Successful individuals fail more often than the average person as they take more risks, they're ready to fail and they LEARN from their outages - that's what they're for. Each failure is a move nearer to success.
Think about a professional sportsperson who fails to win the competition. Does s/he withdraw from athletics feeling inferior? I don't think so; they recognize what they did correct, recognize what was wrong, locate a better way to acheive it, and practice till they improve.
3. Initially while goal setting, only set targets you know you can attain, rather than setting yourself up to fail. This will help your self-esteem. Afterwards you can begin to challenge yourself with more focused goals.
4. Acknowledge that none succeeds at everything they do. The 'expert' skier may be unable to write a composition, an excellent cook might not be able to work with a PC.
5. Even the most confident people have something they're not sure about. They're not perfect; don't create pressure for yourself by believing you have to be.
6. Understand that lacking in confidence is a mind-set. In this state you become a self-confessed victim which changes your behaviour. Others don't see you as a failure till your behavior tells them you are.
7. Dramatic changes rarely happen. Usually it's the little alterations on a daily basis that matter. If you grow even a little daily, you'll be astonished by the end of a year how far you've come. Thus keep a diary/record of where you started so that you can see the differences by the end of the year. Make sure your daily routines and attitudes count, and congratulate yourself on your accomplishments.
8. You shouldn't be around people who make you feel bad about yourself. Their negativity is THEIR problem and has absolutely nothing to do with you! Often they put you down to make themselves feel better about their low self-esteem. Try to look for individuals who lift you and understand you.
9. Don't try to do it by yourself. Even if you can make some improvement it will be more speedily if you seek some help from an advisor or undertake some confidence coaching.
